We are looking to secure the services of an experienced Project Lead Engineer with a proven track record in substation engineering.
You will be part of the engineering department as lead engineer for complex AC/DC railway projects worldwide. In this role you provide the technical lead and coordination for all engineering activities as technical responsible of the project.
You will ensure that technical tasks related to the project are cost effectively executed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. You will collaborate during site activities with technical support to commissioning and start-up. Working in close cooperation with sales and tendering functions, you will support during tender providing full technical solution (power supply system definition, sizing calculation, drawings, bill of materials, technical specifications, assessment of sub-suppliers´ offer, engineering cost estimation) according to customer technical specifications.

This role calls for a professional electrical engineer with experience in power systems and substation design. Working as a Project Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for various railway substation engineering projects in the Electrification – Distribution Solutions division. You will be based in Switzerland but working on international traction power projects.
You will be mainly accountable for:
• Leading, supervising, and coordinating other specialized engineers in all engineering disciplines (both in-house and outsourced) related to your assigned projects.
• Collaborating on project design, installation, commissioning, and site activities, to clarify potential issues or provide solutions as the lead engineer.
• Directing other project engineers and designers on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, including modelling, prototyping, and calculations.
• Applying design thinking or design for excellence concepts in projects, including modelling, prototyping, simulation, and calculations.
• Lead & attend technical discussions with customers, handle site queries and take necessary actions.
Qualifikationen für die Rolle
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5 years of experience in power system engineering, experience in substations for AC/DC railway applications will be considered as an advantage.
- You are highly skilled in engineering processes, design and simulation and calculations tools such as ETAP, MATLAB, AUTOCAD etc. You can quickly adapt and learn new tools and techniques need to be successful for this role.
- Close co-operation with Project Management, Sales & Tendering as well as other ABB factory service engineers.
- Basic competence in substation automation and control.
- You are passionate about leading projects and are able to communicate with customers and internal stakeholders
- You are at ease communicating in English with additional proficiencies in French or German
- Ability to travel 20% of the time worldwide.
