Your role and responsibilities
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Power Electronics Testing and Laboratory Specialist to be part of the expansion of our business with a novel solid state transformer technology for datacenter applications. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be part of the ELDS R&D center of excellence team for Solid State Transformer in charge of the design and development of the future Solid State Transformer products family with first focus on Data Center application requirements. In this context, and as part of the R&D SST development team, the Senior Testing and Laboratory Specialist will have special focus on the implementation and execution of the validation, qualification and certification testing activities and protocols for components, sub-systems and systems within the internal and external R&D and Production Lab facilities for the new ABB SST offering. The location for this position is Baden-Daettwil in Switzerland, with relocation possibilities to other production locations.
You will be mainly responsible for:

Member of the SST for Data Center R&D team, leading the testing activities in R&D labs for the Validation, Qualification and Certification of the SST components, sub-systems and systems using the R&D Prototypes and Tests Units in the existing and new internal testing setups and areas and in external facilities. This includes planning, practical implementation and execution, analysis and documentation activities of SST tests, with close interaction with program manager, product architect, other R&D engineers, testing and laboratory specialists and technicians.

Responsible for the definition of the SST dedicated lab test processes and protocols, infrastructure, areas and equipment, with active interaction and collaboration with the different stakeholders in the different locations involved (CH, CZ, IT, US), including the Lab Infrastructure and the Health Safety and Environment (HSE) teams.

Close support and collaboration with the productization and factory teams for the SST production testing activities, involving the definition of the test specifications, the training of testing engineers, test data and results documentation, adaptation of tests protocols, etc.

Contribution to the maintenance and further development of the key Power Electronics Technologies Expertise and Know-How of the SST for Datacenters R&D team in testing, validation and certification.
You will be part of advanced R&D activities in the field of power electronics for the ABB SST for Datacenter Products, in close cooperation with a highly qualified senior team of R&D engineers and scientists in a global and multicultural setup.
Qualifications for the role

University, University of Applied Sciences Bachelor or Master degree, or Equivalent Experience in the field of electrical engineering with focus on Power Electronics testing, validation, qualification and certification.

Solid background experience and high interest on practical R&D experimentation, testing and validation in Medium Voltage and High Power lab environment for the introduction to the market of Power Electronics converter new products and functionalities. Expertise in solutions and components validation, productization and certification in MV environment is desired.

Know-how and expertise in test systems, equipment and infrastructure related to the validation and qualification of power electronics components and sub-systems testing, including protocols for safety, quality, reliability, and certification.

Interest in applied research and development, self-organized, motivated person, that likes to work in a highly qualified research and development team composed of experts in different domains and global locations.

Fluency in written and spoken English. German is a plus.

Availability to travel sporadically.
